Accessibility
This website should be usable by people who browse with a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification, or a browser set to larger text. That is the standard we build to, and this page states plainly where the site stands.
What the site does
- Every page is plain HTML with a single main heading and a labeled navigation, header, and footer, so a screen reader can move through it by landmark.
- A “Skip to content” link appears when you press Tab, so the navigation can be bypassed.
- Every form field has a visible label attached to it. Errors are stated in text, not by color alone.
- Text and background colors meet the WCAG 2.1 AA contrast minimum of 4.5 to 1 for body text and 3 to 1 for large text.
- Keyboard focus is visible on every link, button, and field.
- The site reads and works without JavaScript. Nothing but the contact and signup forms depends on it.
- Text reflows without a horizontal scrollbar down to a 320-pixel-wide screen, and stays legible when zoomed to 200 percent.
- Photographs are presentational and are marked so assistive software passes over them rather than announcing filenames. Information is never carried by an image alone.
Where it falls short
Two things we know about:
- The site has not been tested against a screen reader by a person who uses one daily. Automated checking is not the same thing, and we are not going to describe it as though it were.
- Documents offered for download in future, such as project sheets or a published issue of Tierra Encantada, may not be tagged for screen readers when they are first posted.
Standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at Level AA. The site has not been independently audited or certified, and we do not claim conformance. This statement describes work in progress, and it will be corrected as the site changes.

If any part of this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, please tell us through the contact form and describe what happened and what you were using. We will respond, and we will fix what we can fix. If the information you need is trapped behind something broken, we will send it to you another way in the meantime.
